The WWF Sustainable Rattan Project has already notched several milestones in its course to switch from overexploited rattan resources to a sustainable rattan product supply chain in the Greater Mekong.

  • Since 2008, approximately 800 hectares of forest have been placed under sustainable management in Laos.
  • Almost 8,000 hectares of forests inventories have been carried out and will soon be under sustainable management and harvesting in the Greater Mekong region.
  • More than 60 households have gained increased economic benefits from rattan in Laos and Cambodia.
  • Nearly 50 rattan processing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are already engaged with WWF to promote improved production methods and more sustainable management and harvesting.
